you simply had to be there for the trench era.

the start of the lore. the hiatus break. the bandito tour. what a time to be alive.

trench was definitely an experimental for the boys, in many ways. experimental in the sense they were establishing this whole new story that would be woven into everything they do, in lyrical senses, storytelling, even the sound of trench itself is more upbeat and has hopeful undertones *pun intended* that other TOP albums do not have.

I think I will always come back to boygenius because their music is nothing short of perfection. the perfect amount of sad, indie style that we see in their individual music careers, and some experimental elements of rock in songs like "satanist".

it's no secret Phoebe makes music for the sad girls, but this album is so much more to me than just a sad album. it encapsulates so many emotions, the girls who get it, get it. its a perfect yearning album, but not in the romanticized light. "yearning" in the sense of pain. not having a fun time yearning. stuck in a place you don't want to be in yearning.
