I discovered Glaive after I was browsing through Lyrical Lemonade's and seeing the 1985 music video. The music wasn't too captivating, but I was interesting in this kid (who I swore to God was Finn Wolfhard) who I'd never heard of getting a spot on a channel with over 18 million subscribers.

I went to his channel and was blown away after hearing 'stephany' and noticed how well he was blending energetic production with layered vocals. And I didn't really hear much else like it. Still though, 'stephany' was enough of a good song that I was coming back to it almost daily.

Then I forgot about Glaive, and he dropped this. At first, I didn't really like this. The production seemed to be oddly pitched in some areas, but as soon as I got the hook, I was shook to my core. Layered vocals.

Glaive's voice is absolutely fantastic when layered. It gives so much energy which makes the song almost seem like it's jumping out at you. The verses, while also quite good, were not as amazing as that hook. The production also grew on me over time, and felt like I was taking a bite through some hard candy.

Speaking of the devil, let's talk about that production. There seems to be some kind of synth carrying each melody which elevates the song, and is where a good chunk of the energy comes from, but another huge chunk of energy derives from the intense 808s blazing through the track. It's like Glaive decided to make them louder than they needed to be, but that made them stick out more, and made the synth and the additional drums bang (with the help of some well-placed pauses, of course). I don't even know if what I'm saying makes sense, but listening to this song with my volume at 20% made me feel like I was at a concert. Which SHOULDN'T BE POSSIBLE.

Rating: 9/10

Consensus: Glaive makes a song brimming with energy, though by layering his vocals more, and attempting to advance his lyrical capabilities with puns (that aren't terrible dad jokes) or more interesting comparisons would have made the song more 'perfect' in my eyes.

Also: I'm back. School has been really tough, and I really hadn't had the time to listen to much new music. I heard a few occasional singles, but studying for tests/projects got in the way. Anyways, school breaks have started, so hopefully, some new reviews will come out.

It's good to be back.
