Better than I thought. It didn't stick with me though. Melancholy Hill and Empire Antz are definitely the highlights. However songs like Glitter Freeze were a pain to get through.
An exceptional album from good ol Weezer diving into a very new sound, and I love it. I’ve listened to a lot of Weezer’s music, and I’ve always thought they were good. But this album took their talent to the extreme. The addition of strings to their music adds an amazing element to their songs that gives it a more ‘raw’ feel, while still keeping true to their themes. I love it.
I enjoy a good chunk of this album. I LOVE a few songs, I tolerate a couple. This is a definite improvement from ‘Concentrate’ for sure, as I actually had the interest to listen to the entire thing. My personal stand outs are No Instructions, The Garden, and What Could Be Better. I think the sound of this album overall is my favorite, besides their newest LP. Found out about these guys about half a year ago, and was immediately drawn in by their use of cello mixed with a pop-rock ish sound. I’m not a huge fan of their earlier albums, but this album and ‘What Could Be Better’ are really something special in my opinion.
