Experimental though very accessible, Kimbra comes back with her unique vision of how to produce intricate but catchy tracks. Surprising and quite safe at the same time, she seems to have in mind the need of pushing the boundaries without taking big risks. An outstanding and fresh effort, familiar although being a step forward in the singer/ producer's career.
First mixtape which shows that she has a lot of potential. So many bangers For When I Fall Again, Cheat Code and Ressaca. That´s amazing that the whole production has been handled by Lyzza herself I guess that Pitchfork may have influenced a lot of people who cannot listen a piece of work on their own. If it would have been labeled Best New music the user score would have been radically different. Such a shame....
This album is great. I cannot say its ahead of its time like /\/\ /\ Y /\ was though. Still, many tracks are enjoyable and reflect M.I.A´s sound palette. For hardcore fans it is probably a straightforward good album, it does not leave you gobsmacked but at least it does not disappoint at all. I feel quite pumped about this release and I would probably get the vinyl if Island decides to put it out...
