Exhilaratingly mesmerizing. The band is tight-knit and the groove pulse throughout is just disgusting, had much stank face throughout.

A diverse yet cohesive and concise collection, an evolution from the playground of the band discovering itself on ALFAA into something somehow more refined while still maintaining the interesting blend of genres and styles that I fell in love with on their first album. Raw, groovy & based. The full manifestation of Radiohead's CAN-style Krautrock influence that they sometimes would tease but never made a full album or project of it until The Smile. As a Radiohead fan who over time has found that influence to be my favorite aspect of the band, I have been completely spoiled these last couple years to say the least! This just did not hit for me like Songs and I'm having a hard time figuring why...I think I find myself missing the lo-fi textures and timbre of Songs on this. This sounds like a stripped down Big Thief album without it's own flair to make it stand out on it's own. Not a horrible album by any means, some gorgeous moments as expected from anything Lenker but was surprised how this wasn't clicking for me considering my love for Lenker and Big Thief.
