Having secluded himself in a trailer on the Big Sur, and isolated himself from friends and associates, he emerged as a new artist, Bob Darin, exchanging his tuxedo for a denim jacket and a moustache. Dismissed as a curio, this album revealed Darin’s growing refinement as a folk and country rock songwriter, as evidenced by album highlight and opener, ‘Me & Mr Hohner’. Though highly criticised by those who much preferred his swing standards to his ‘Midnight Cowboy’ phase and heckled by audiences, one has to admire his commitment to his change in musical styles.
