Bad Meets Evil - Hell: The Sequel

This is a bit of a detour from Eminem’s discography but I thought I might as well check it out while I’m here. Royce seemingly brings the best out of 2010s Eminem, as his verses here are far better than they were on Recovery. This record shines the most in its verses than in its hooks. The hook writing is extremely lackluster, A Kiss is a perfect example of this with the chorus actually bringing the song down a considerable amount, despite the rapping being great. I wouldn’t have minded if this was a hookless album as the intro where Royce and Eminem’s verses get shorter and shorter until they’re going bar for bar is fantastic. The production is another low point on this record, I don’t hate it or anything but there was never a moment that made me go “This beat is great.” They’re pretty forgettable and just feel like background noise for Royce and Em’s rapping. Overall, this was an enjoyable listen. I love how fast-paced it is, especially at only 37 minutes and Eminem is in a much higher position lyrically than he was on Recovery. I can only hope that will continue into his next album.
