HARDSTONE PSYCHO is another Don Toliver release that showcases his versatility. From slow R&B style tracks to crazy hype tracks, this LP has a variety of bangers for a variety of occasions (late night drives, parties, gym, etc.). Although Don's voice is - at times - drenched in auto-tune, it sounds good and catchy on the tracks with good production. The instrumentals are experimental and with rap synchronise to make a new sound, for example in TORE UP. I think Don's rap on BROTHER STONE is some of his best yet and I find the Kodak hook extremely catchy (although his lyricism is pretty awful). I think Teezo could have been more than a background artist during his feature, however his adlibs make BACKSTREETS a vibe. Overall, the highs outweigh the lows. Some tracks are not memorable and slightly boring, however there are exciting songs on this record that are constantly in my rotation and suit Don's style along with his tone.
Top 3 tracks: TORE UP, KRYPTONITE, INSIDE.
