This super meta stage play of an album is what AJR think they’re doing, except RAYE is sick as hell and makes it work where they don’t. However, a couple songs do dip just a toe too far into that territory for me, still overall very good and worth the wait.
While I love their synthpop stuff, On The Train Ride Home is my favorite album of theirs and one of my favorites of all time, so with this project being a return to that sound I can’t help but love it.
Everything that was good in the first album is on full display here. A great example of focusing on what works and making that as good as it can be.
