Eddie would be rolling in his grave
A complete guilty pleasure of mine. It’s not good by any means. Lil Yachty doesn’t make any sense here, but I still enjoy it.
TikTok trash that makes Christian hip hop look bad. An obnoxious beat with a skateboard kickflip that’s meant to sell, and some sloppy verses on top of it. This is just not fun nor what I want out of Christian hip hop.
Also, Forrest, I get the sentiment of texting a prayer to your ex. As a Christian, I’d agree it’s good to pray for them, but it’s still not great advice to reconnect with them.
Lyrical gems:
“Your sweet moonbeam / The smell of you in every single dream I dream”
“Ain’t that Mr. Mister on the radio, stereo”
“My heart is bound to beat right out my untrimmed chest”
“I believe in you, like a virgin, you’re Madonna”
“So gangsta, I’m so thug”
As a Christian, I appreciate Forrest Frank’s boldness of his faith and the reminder of following God’s way this song provides. I just don’t like this song for its annoying hook and cringeworthy lyrics that don’t work theologically. It’s also just got an awkwardly placed transition. It feels like it was made to be a viral hit, and nothing more.
If it helped you in your faith, I’m more than happy. I just don’t like it at all as a song.
The perfect collaboration! Charli xcx bringing Lorde on this female friendship jam to reconcile their relationship made history! Lorde absolutely killed it!
Clearly, "Speak Life" is a childhood classic, and "Me Without You" is an absolute Christian banger! Otherwise, this is one of tobyMac's weaker albums. I appreciate him branching out his sound to pop, but the electronic pop sound doesn't hold up on this one.
Other than the two I previously mention, the tracks "Forgiveness" and "Steal My Show" are strong hits that redeem the album with their powerful Christ-centered messages, but after track ... read more
I’ve always had a soft spot for this album since listening to “Captured” and “Tonight” are some of my earliest memories with music. Now, I can say it’s mostly held the same early-2010s charm.
The album nicely blends the old rock/hip hop tobyMac with his transition to pop music — with electronic and other genres added in the mix. Its mix of tobyMac’s two sounds will please fans of both directions.
It’s execution isn’t the best, it can ... read more
