Ghost Mountain - OCTOBER COUNTRY

Not what I was expecting but after like 15 listens I just absolutely love this album.

This album is a movie. absolutely no skips

I don’t think I’ve even dug into the fullness of this album, that being said it is still quite a great album taking a 3 act structure album reminding of a structure sort of like Life Of Pablo.

The only real complaint with this album is that it varies in quality quite a bit throughout the album. There’s songs like Baptised in Fear, Take Me Back To LA and the Abyss that whilst being far above good don’t quite reach the heights ... read more

Whilst not as grandiose as After Hours, this album still slaps.

Fav Tracks: Out Of Time, Gasoline, Is There Someone Else?

Least Fav Track: I Heard You’re Married

The Weeknd - After Hours

The production is absolutely phenomenal and immaculate. It helps form this cinematic experience through this cycle that Weeknd finds himself in LA.

I feel like this is best demonstrated with Alone Again with its slow start and then when the bridge comes in it makes it feel like you’re driving down around with lights around you but it all looks like a blur to you.

I would recommend this album to anyone who is looking for a cinematic experience in an album

Honestly the first listen of this album felt really dissappointing. For Turn to go to some of the best witch house I’ve ever heard with OCD and Medicated, it sounded like he was gonna far surpass anyone in the Mound and become arguably one of the best witchhouse artists. Then, he drops one of the most generic albums I ever heard which mimics an old sound that was stale years ago and done far better than the peers he was outdoing.

It’s not even like Turn is posing this like ... read more

This is the type of album you need a ton of listens to to get. This is probably the most experimental album I’ve listened to since Veteran. Honestly, Drug Story’s beat would fit right on that album. This album at first sounds like Wii Music mixed with Window Cleaning sounds but eventually it sort of sounded like some weird af abstract piece you’d see at a gallery

I’m not good at analysing themes but I’m pretty sure his intention with this album was about how ... read more

It took a couple of listens for me to ge the hype behind this. Not every tracks is equally as memorable as the others. They works less as all being distinct individual tracks with only some being those and others acting like glue for the higher points.

Also each song has grown quite a bit on me but that might just be because Synthpop is something I don’t really listen to.

As of now, this is my album of the year

Don’t mind the cover and that it is (very loosely mind you) based off MLP

This album is in the level of albums like TPAB in completely trapping you within the artists mind and thoughts and their own world. There was nothing taking me out of the experience of this album and nothing making me cringe. Everything about this is bloody perfect.

You see what kicks this above any other concept album is that it has a happy resolution to its ... read more

It may just be this is not my type of thing but I found this album sort of boring. There was nothing that really wowed me, nothing that was really catchy and didn't have a memorable concept. It overall seemed a bit boring. There was some slightly interesting songs like Lowdown (part ii) and Stay By My Side

Kendrick Lamar - GNX

Just bangers front to back. I feel like what people say about DAMN. That I never managed to get is what I feel here about this album. Honestly, the sequencing is pretty much prefect. A good balance of everything

Fav Tracks: squabble up, tv off, reincarnated

Least Fav Track: gnx

I've only listened to this twice but I geniunely cannot fathom how any other album from this year could possibly top this to be honest. Everything about this album from the first to last track is completely flawless to be honest. Whilst it doesn't have the mind-twisting moments like something of a TPAB, the execution of the concept of this album is executed so well that I would say it achieves the same tier of those albums.

There's been so many times when I've just sank ... read more

This album is an absolute slapper front to back no skips.

There was so many times where I felt like sinking into the floor like the strings on Coming Home or the guitar on Beaches. In my eyes, a massive improvement on Beatopia which was already a good album.

The structure and pacing of this album is honestly immaculate , I feel like that was a weakness of beatopia, it sort of lulled to the end. Here I feel like Bea went for the same thing but managed to pull it off by focusing on more ... read more

Edit: 74 --> 94

I believe I rated this album too early and I should've sat with this albym for quite a bit. I think I had the wrong mindset going into this album. I felt like I treated it like it was this absolute massive concept album like Mr Morale & The Big Steppers but really this album functions more like a diary with Tyler expressing certain thoughts with no thread to connect them and I don't mean that as a diss.

I feel like Tyler more so made this for himself which he ... read more

The introspective more in depth tracks, I absolutely love absolute masterpieces for sure. I do wish the concept of Amy Winehouse Battle Rapping was expanded into a story over the whole album. Also, the hooks are sort of hit and miss. It may sound like I’m dissing the album but these are mild complaints compared to the High Highs. Listen to Bigfoot and then you’ll see what I mean

EDIT: I’ve listened to it with English subtitles now and I feel like I get more of what he was going for. Basically he was going for more so a pushing towards more and more letting go of the mindset of only remembering the past and blaming the world and staying in the comfort of his memories and now moving onto a version with him that can deal with pain so he can feel true happiness

This sort of helps explain more of why it sort of feels like after Evoke Me there is such a drastic drop ... read more

Peggy solidly illustrates the fact that what you’re doing is sort of vapid and has no true fulfilling end and we can turn to God who is the source of what is truly fufilling yet we turn to the unfulfilling things. Or bro is just saying “the baddies tho”

His most reflective one since CSJ directors cut and might be Top 5 maybe even Top 3 Peggy. Honestly no gripes with this album (except for Jihad Joe being boring compared to every other track). The only thing that would truly ... read more

First half (1-9) an absolute banger absolutely and utterly flawless to the point this is the reason why the rating is so high. Like I’d rate a whole album with this quality a 90
Second half tries to go for bangers but they’re nothing compared to the first half so I’d rate this half 75

It probably would’ve been better spent leaning into more low-key tracks and feels like it was half going for a more a reflective side with Benadryl Angel and Dead Trees and Get Money and ... read more

I feel like everyone going through it and making therapy albums this year. Still some fire music tho.
It was nice to see this whole journey of emotional growth all build up to that beautiful moment in Texas Blue. Although this is technically a mixtape, this whole thing feels more like a concept album. Might need more listens to solidify my rating but these are songs are good but not absolutely stunning like Sisyphus and picking up hands were.

I used to think this was mid and disappointing especially compared to hifn and Charli. Somehow I didn’t realise that this whole album feels like an amalgamation of those two albums and elevated everything I loved about them and resolved the weak points of those records.
