about as close as i can get to experiencing the trauma and ecstasy of the indigenous/Afro-Brazilian ancestors i don't have without going to the Amazon and undergoing an ayahuasca ritual
fav track: Xe Anama (Coração no Ritmo da Terra)

No Joy - Bugland
70

like every good shoegaze album, it blends together well; unlike every great shoegaze album, very little stood out enough for me to remember after a listen except the closer
fav track: Jelly Meadow Bright

Genesis Owusu - REDSTAR WU & THE WORLDWIDE SCOURGE
90

an album with his truest hip-hop tracks alongside his most varied sonic palette for a single record and his most direct political commentary makes this my favorite Genesis Owusu record yet
fav track: THE WORLDWIDE SCOURGE

ezcodylee - STUNT 4 LIFE
70

the production made me laugh multiple times with how ridiculously blown out and heavy it is, but it also started to get very samey towards the end which made a track like FOURSTYLE ! a very welcome break, despite this it does a good job of channeling the energy of punk through a trap metal/rage lens
fav track: ALBUM OF THE YEAR !

leroy - status update music
90

yo this shit is bonkers and i totally get why it isn't on streaming, like among many others there's a TAKE ME HOME BY KNOCKED LOOSE SAMPLE...this also shows just how much i hated the rapping on Revengeseekerz because this has similarly unhinged production yet is 10x better in my ears
fav track: CROWDKILLING 101

Action Bronson - PLANET FROG
80

አሁን ወደ ፕላኔት እንቁራሪት እየገባህ ነው
fav track: CONDOR (duh)

Lip Critic - Theft World
90

yeah this just makes everything better from the debut, hard to argue against bumping my score up
fav track: Talon

KNEECAP - FENIAN
80

holy shit the production glowed up MASSIVELY, that was my biggest complaint with their last record and it's almost completely gone with this project
fav track: Liar's Tale

Mei Semones - Kurage
70

more of the same here, which is good and bad as I'm starting to get a bit tired of the rhythms on display but she is still good for 1-2 killer lyrical tracks + it just sounds real nice
fav track: Kurage

Mydreamfever - 3. How I See Nothing but You
80

patiently beautiful despite the noisier passages, this is like the tail end of a trip into the comedown as the sun sets
fav track: How I See Nothing but You

Jeru the Damaja - The Sun Rises in the East
80

god i love DJ Premier, and Jeru the Damaja swims around these beats with undeniable skill leading to a great entry in the golden age of hip-hop
fav track: D.Original

Fcukers - Ö
80

trade the one-liners and abrasive production from Slayyyter's most recent project for pure unadulterated house vibes, only track that doesn't really hit for me is the dub cut but most of these are SCREAMING BEGGING PLEADING to be mixed into DJ sets
fav track: Play Me

The Long Faces - Documentaries
90

straight bangers, vocals are a bit theatric but it fits for sure and the talent is undeniable, wonder what these guys are up to nowadays as they seem to have disappeared/moved on to other projects
fav track: And Where Have You Gone, Mr. Wolf?

Makthaverskan - Glass and Bones
70

cons: doesn't really try anything new compared to their past work
pros: similar to their past work
fav track: Pity Party

Angine de Poitrine - Vol.II
70

like many i found this group through the KEXP performance, and i think Fantano nailed the score on this one; it really feels very flat in the studio, losing some of the multimedia magic of the live performance, plus it can get a bit repetitive on some tracks and doesn't really present new ideas (though it is a lot of fun when it works)
fav track: Fabienk

Courtney Barnett - Creature of Habit
80

Courtney goes a little rockier, and it goes over great with some sweet jams all throughout this project
fav track: Mantis

underscores - U
80

some truly excellent pop sensibilities bubble just beneath the surface (and on the surface) on this LP, and the writing is surprisingly strong in supporting them
fav track: Hollywood Forever

Slayyyter - WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA
90

this is the full package: darkly intoxicating grooves paired with earwormy hooks and just enough Justice-esque abrasiveness to keep a wild edge of self-abandonment on the dance floor
fav track: YES GODDD

Slothrust - The Pact
70

ALWAYS BAD NEVER GOOD NEVER GOOD NEVER GOOD NEVER GOOD NEVER GOOD NEVER G
fav track: Fever Doggs

Neurosis - An Undying Love for a Burning World
80

great heavy, dark, and atmospheric sludge
fav track: In the Waiting Hours

On ciarapussypops's review of Kokeshi - 冷刻
"@ciarapussypops their website doesn't have any tour dates listed atm, I just sort of saw them sort of by accident as I was going to see Svalbard (UK metalcore/blackgaze band) lol. I would be surprised if they left Japan before releasing another album at least, the domestic scene here is quite strong so I'm not sure they will go anywhere outside maybe festivals in KOR or something without a big overseas breakout of some kind"

"just got out of seeing them live, this is absolutely the case. the vocalist was absolutely demonic and went full Grudge a few times during instrumental breaks."
On Wither's review of PARTYOF2 - AMERIKA'S NEXT TOP PARTY!
"@Stargrinder this is a really funny critique because there isn't even a single word over 5 syllables (1 over 4), and this is far from this mf's least decipherable review syllable counts aside lol plus you didn't even engage with the substance of said review and decided to attack it for being "big-worded," read a book and be better"

On McKinley Dixon - Magic, Alive!
"ok and? I may have even preferred a longer runtime because it would allow more time for the songs to breathe, alleviating my main complaint. it's still a good record."
On Wither's review of McKinley Dixon - Magic, Alive!
"very interesting to see the dichotomy you have in your opinion on this record vs. billy woods' most recent work compared to the site in general, but I think I can see where you're coming from and I agree it's far from my AOTY. not very surprising to see a primarily American online music-reviewing space to be dominated by white people who don't truly understand hip-hop as an artistic movement."
On ork's review of Elizabeth Colour Wheel - Nocebo
"nocebo is the antonym of placebo, pronounced the same way. it's when a patient's perception/expectations of a treatment negatively affects its efficacy or perceived side effects (whether or not it's "real" medicine). good review btw"

On Highly Suspect - Mister Asylum
"@mj04 easily their best since the sophomore record, definitely some songs I enjoy a lot on there but they're gonna need to put out another one to pull me back in after that run of mostly garbage"
