I'm just starting to get interested in ska, and this band's debut sets me up for a good start. Yes, it's a try-out and done for fun, as the last track makes it clear, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy the creative work of highschoolers from the late ‘90s. Slint also kicked off with a test run ¯\(°_o)/¯
With the first three tracks, and more specifically with the song Puppies, the band decisively and irrevocably transitioned to Swans-esque post-rock. The very beginning of the album compels one to listen to the rest of the material with greater attention, reminding us that this is the culmination of these guys' creative abilities.
