A gorgeous snapshot of a crazy time in Kanye’s life that brought back some humility he had forgotten over the years.
Kanye recognized that, while influential, 808s had untapped potential that wasn’t realized in its initial release. I wish he finished the 2015 remaster, but it’s still great regardless.
Kanye chases anthems on this album and delivers the most accessible and easy-to-love album in his catalog. One of the few albums I think gets better the more dated it sounds.
By and large ahead of its time for mainstream rap, and consistently impressive to look back on. Despite some messy song structures, the sonic execution of Kanye’s ideas is so good that it really makes his new stuff sound that much worse.
There are only two types of songs on this album: decent and endearing pop, or mega cringe millennial cornball music. Thankfully it’s mostly the former
