Majestic electronic jazz fusion. Kinda like a fancy retro video game.
Going Down Slow hits different though. The others are fine, but Going Down Slow is the reason why I'm here rating this album. I'd give this song alone a 95. Great intro, surreal and the transition makes you melt. And then just amazing grooves.
Generally very funky grooves, great bass, great beat.
Great variation, beautiful construction of sounds. Amazing use of bass, sound effects, drum fills, guitar riffs.
They fill empty parts of the songs with sounds you crave and it's so satisfying to hear it. Like the drum fills. Rolly's in Love, for example, you could focus on a different instrument every listen and you wouldn't get bored- though the fade out pissed me off (I personally despise fade outs). Love Attic Fowler. Discovered a gem, really... The guitar tone is so nice, though it feels repetitive when listening to the whole album in one go. I like the new album much more than this one, The Bird Planet, and I came here to rate that recent album but it wasn't on AOTY yet so I'm rating this album instead... Night in Tunisia is absolutely incredible it is just such a beautifully complex piece...
The 11/8 cannot be expressed as beautifully as this piece does. The drumming holds so much power over this piece and oh my lord the piano is so clean I wish I could embed this into my DNA. Cannot ignore the acoustic bass guitar adding depth and holding everything together. The chemistry between all 3 instruments... gives me chills. Wish I could play like that.
