I never heard something as soulless and boring as this album came from a band that has done and will do better

I love this album a lot but I can't connect to any other project the strokes released thus far like this one. Is this it?

The first album from Will, overall a mixed bag but with some great songs considering the context it was recorded in.
After going through his whole backlog I noticed that the number albums are more experiments Will wanted to try than actual albums per se, especially after listening the songs released before them with the Nervous Young Men name which are more straight forward than the number albums.

It sounds like the bad parts of 1, Will probably watched Fire Walk With Me months before and thought reversing lyrics was a cool idea
