A step-up from their debut, Magdalena Bay expands on their retro synthpop format and cusps a more polished and varied set of tracks that flow over you like a serene river housing colorful fish of all shapes and sizes. Imaginal Disks really highlights the "imaginal" part greatly, as in we're the test subject imagining their vivid playground of addicting hooks, catchy tempos and mesmerizing vocals. It's all-out-attack of interesting production choices that while chaotic on the surface, feels controlled and not haphazard. It's one of those albums that listens out like an audio tour guide to a masterful art piece. I await to see what else Magdalena Bay has in store for their future projects.
