Femme Fatale definitely has some great moments, but overall as an album it feels disorganized. The first track (title track) sets the album up with this dark, jazzy, cinematic sound. The next two tracks more or less stay true to this sound and expand on the narrative of the title track. There is no doubt that Laufey can craft beautiful melodies with well-crafted lyrics and nice instrumentation. My biggest gripe with this album is not with any super specific songwriting details or a lack of a high quality track list, but rather with the overall stylistic direction. I'm just not a huge fan of the very grand, theatrical style from this record compared to her previous work.
