Y’all… I’m a sucker for Pop, I’m sorry ๐Ÿ˜ž

Benson Boone is an artist who started on my favorite talent show: American Idol. He wowed the judges with his unique and pretty boy voice, but then was offered a record deal and he left the show.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m in love with his Pretty Boy voice. It’s sweet and handsome, with just a tad bit of rasp. His vowels are nice and sweet and breath control is something he has down. Not to mention that boy has a range! His falsetto is his weapon and his lower range is still strong and sultry.

But where he struggles is writing. His lyrics are bland and generic. They aren’t interesting nor do they provide an sustenance to ruminate on. Instead, you’re left with the heel of white bread lyrics: it isn’t tasty, nor will it fill you up at all. It’s just extremely boring to listen to and when you expect a story, you’re left disappointed.

Another issue is his tunes just aren’t engaging. They, like the lyrics, are far from innovative and fall under the so-called “TikTok Formula”. They aren’t bad, just not good and take away from his voice in unfortunate ways.

The one song that’s truly engaging is ‘Nights Like These’ in which he uses the fullness of his range and his gorgeous tone to his advantage. The backbeat isn’t bad, mainly consisting of some warped Piano’s, and the lyrics aren’t distracting.

Overall, it’s just a distasteful record that leaves you wanting more quality. You probably won’t come back to it, and if you do it’s because you forgot everything about it.
