The crazy part about this record is that it was recorded in Elmhurst, Queens
As much of a classic this record is, we gotta acknowledge the Schoolly D in the room.
This is the best posthumous Big L album we could've possibly got.
This might be a rather unpopular opinion, but this album feels like a step down in quality from their previous album, which kind of showed everyone in the industry why this duo is worth paying attention to. There are some great tracks but also quite a few duds. Everything about this project seems to have been accomplished with low effort, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it is a stark contrast to their other albums, especially Moment of Truth.
This is one of the best posthumous albums in hip-hop. No skips. Personally don't understand why the rating is so low, it has barely any weak moments and very high highs.
It's amazing that this is the worst album from A Tribe Called Quest. Much better than a lot of rappers' best work today, and it doesn't really deserve, in my opinion, the low score it has (to a degree). While this album could've been much better had a lot of the tracks been removed, it still mostly sounds fresh today, which isn't something a lot of hip-hop albums from 1998, especially from the east-coast, are able to pull off.
Not too bad. "Get a Hold" is actually one of the best tracks of the entire A Tribe Called Quest catalogue. A lot of this album has a great, spacy vibe. There are a couple of tracks here that could've definitely used some improvements, though.
They did, in fact, get from there. I think it's safe to say Tribe is the only hip-hop group that came back with a killer album after a two-decade hiatus, an album that was almost equivalent to there best work. No one else, in almost all of modern music, could do that.
In my opinion, this is A Tribe Called Quest's finest work. "Clap Your Hands" and "God Lives Through" might just be two of the best tracks in their entire catalogue, not to mention almost every track having perfect marks in every way, from wordplay, to sample flipping.
