Is this the rock record of the decade? Only time will tell; but it's a damn good pitch at the designation.
It takes a lot of skill to create something so outside the box while also being so sticky and hypnotic. I love this thing.
An interesting one from the minds of Kevin Abstract and company. It has a soul bigger than the sum of its parts, one genuine enough to do a lot of the heavy lifting. While these songs fail to recapture that BROCKHAMPTON magic, it’s clear that Kevin’s abilities as a curator remain strong and entertaining. Genuinely the most I’ve enjoyed listening to SKRILLEX since the EPs era. Great format, great ideas, great execution, all while refusing to take itself seriously pretty much at all.
I hate this album. It’s two hours of the most soulless distillation of modern pop tropes I could imagine masquerading as a country record by employing the most superficial qualities one may associate with “country” (twangy vocals, the occasional banjo, a hyper-focus on trucks, alcoholism, questionable relationship dynamics, and Jesus).
