If nothing else, Mutation doubles down on RedHook‘s oddball nature, along with confessional lyricism, to make an album that’s unmistakably RedHook while still pushing their boundaries even more than before. This one’s for the weirdos.
Would I call this album good?
God no, it's a mashup of edgy lyrical tropes and generic riffs with Emmy Mack's vocals occasionally just comes off as annoying or grating.
However, I can't help but feel drawn to Redhook's latest album despite that. I think this album is criminally underrated!! Not a single skip. Love the Stand Atlantic name drop as well. It's also really amazing to hear live :)
