Prison continue their crawl out of the murk with Downstate, changing shape from one track to the next, but retaining their damaged, sun-blistered, and wonderfully psychedelic shape throughout.

Prison wears their influences on their sleeve on this album, and while that is a beautiful thing, I do still think it hampers their ability to reach some definition and personality at points throughout this release. By no means does it do a poor job of emulating these artists, but it does suffer from a slight lack of originality at times.
