For its second album, the trio from Brighton called Ian Broudie and asked for his help for a trendier, dance-pop sound, not far from what The Beloved was doing.
The difference is that they headed inwards while The Beloved was clearly extrovert.
Somewhere between early Microdisney, the Pet Shop Boys and Black Box Recorder lives this pleasantly airy pop disc - that's, ok, maybe a little TOO easy to relegate to background fodder.
The bitter lyrics and some subtle sonic flourishes make it worth concentrating on that little bit more.
