Van Morrison’s strike rate of seven albums in the past five years has been perhaps a tad overgenerous. Inevitably, quantity rode roughshod over quality. Yet his 47th studio album is easily his best since the lyrical Avalon Sunset, from 1989.
The enunciation is trash and the vocals aren’t anything amazing, but for 79, he’s still not all that bad and the instrumentals are actually really solid. Not a bad late career release.

Since the music of Van Morrison has always had a timeless quality to it, so it's actually a good thing about this album seeming both out of time at points. The blue eyed soul and swingy dance tracks are great. And his lifetime of experiences has given his voice a certain ghostly quality.
