Wizard Apprentice conveys these experiences of abuse very well by putting the lyrical content and her voice centerstage rather than the production. There is still a lot of interesting nuances in the production such as the faint, high-pitched synth in the background of "Gloves Are Off", and like... literally all of what made up "Desire To Learn" (that song is simultaneously a banger and a heartbreaking show of vulnerability). I've been finding myself drawn to musical explorations of trauma - Lingua Ignota, Nicole Dollanganger, Mitski, and Uboa are artists that spring to mind - so I was delighted to discover a new work to add to my trauma canon. This is, perhaps, the first pop/electronic-leaning album I've heard that hits the themes as hard as the artists I just mentioned for me.
