I completely forgot about this album until my brother brought it up the other day, but WHAT A TRIP.
I hate to admit it, but the deepest I've ever delved into brostep is Skrillex (and, I guess, Apashe). Naturally, my first experience with this album was beyond transcendent, especially for someone who ALSO had no experience with metal. Although it certainly feels like a byproduct of the year it came out, "Transcendency" nonetheless comes across as an important moment for brostep and tearout: a point where the latter began to feel like it had its own identity; as well as a point where the fusion of metal and bass music had more or less become fully normalized as a motif.

With another PhaseOne album in the works, I felt like going back to his debut album and getting some refreshed thoughts on it. For me this album is honestly kind of a mixed bag. The highs are quite good but there's a whole lot of stinkers on here as well, sometimes even in the same track there will be some peak moments and some slop.
