Shares some of the sounds and a lot of the spirit of the Tindersticks from their debut, this appears to be a hugely underrated outing from Calexico.
Calexico is a band I came across here on Musicboard, but I don’t know much about their backstory. This is their debut album, and they pretty much fall into the Tex-Mex indie Americana category, with a raw, dusty atmosphere that really captures that Southwestern desert vibe. Listening to this album fills your imagination with images of desert landscapes. They also use field recordings that enhance the imagery, along with a lo-fi production style that adds to the overall mood.
