Montreal, Quebec's The Box headed by Jean-Marc Pisapia offers on their 1984 S/T debut a decent tracklist of New Wave/Synth-pop tunes which aren't altogether bad. Yes, the album today sounds dated & tame. But, the production is quite good plus Unidisc adds two additional (updated) tracks as a bonus. The Box's self-titled debut is, to be entirely fair, a solid album. You can hear the blueprint in it for follow-up All The Time, All The Time, All The Time, which was their breakthrough and their best work. The synthesizer tones are even the exact same for example. However, if we're also being fair: The Box is no All The Time yet. And it shows.
The writing is weaker, the flow of the album a bit clunkier, it's clear they hadn't fully well adapted yet or paved out the vision ... read more
