I don't understand the hate between the two existing reviews. "Bobby Darin," the self-entitled 1972 Motown album, is a gorgeous record that at times has strange lyrics, but an overall deep and rich sound. I thought that overall the vibe was quite solemn, but as with the other albums I've reviewed, it had incredible replay value. "Sail Away" was probably my favorite, but all of the songs equally hold a big chunk of my heart hostage.

I like the style of it, and it does feel like the 70s. Is it disappointing for his last LP? Sure, but the songs themselves aren't bad, and nice vocals as always.

This last album release, his only one for the Motown label, in Darin’s cramped but tragically cut short career is not the ‘swan song’ his die-hard fans would have hoped for, sounding at times like a tired second-rate Andy Williams.
