The first album by the Dutch pop quartet Johan didn't make a lot of noise outside the Netherlands, which is a shame because its mix of indie-guitar nervousness, power pop hooks, and retro-pop sophistication is absolutely terrific.

Johan's debut is a bit like their most famous album, Pergola. Yet there's also enough differences to make you believe this was a different band at work alltogether. This is mainly a thing in the instrumental and the way it gets produced: Johan, compared to Pergola, is way noisier. The production and sound is more like an Oasis record, than what you'd expect from the same band that made Day Is Done and Tumble And Fall.
