Although Moondog is often thought of as a mere exotica novelty, thanks to the composer's eccentricities, it is, in fact, one of the finest third stream jazz albums of its era.
I don't usually listen to this sort of albums, but I saw it on multiple "best avant garde albums" lists and I decided to check it out. And I liked it! The composition is very cool throughout and the pieces are all good. It is kind of short, but it probably didn't need to be any longer. A nice listen.
This is some really creative work.
“Symphonique #3” is in this strange place in between beautiful and dissonant and triumphant and sorrowful. There’s something almost unsettling about how difficult it is to pin this song down emotionally.
“Minisym #1” and “Lament I” see Moondog creating melodies only to then disassemble them and put them back together like a kid with a model plane.

So, I’m going to keep this short once I don’t have much to say. This was good in my opinion. Moondog is an artist who I have heard a few songs from, with the song that I’m most familiar with being “Do Your Thing”, which is great in my opinion. It’s a good album with some good stuff but it doesn’t stay completely interesting through its entirety. Album cover goes absolutely hard tho i cannot lie
Moondog is simply a mediocre set of classical interludes and pretenses to a nonexistent build.
