Critic Reviews

90
Drowned in Sound

As an album Candela has everything: it's energetic and adventurous but these adjectives are synonymous with Mice Parade’s constant journeying through music.

70
PopMatters

Candela is loaded with the kind of bracing, unpredictable pop music that a listener can find something new in again and again.

62
Beats Per Minute

Wile it’s possible to appreciate some of the songs here on their own merits, Candela as a whole never really coalesces into something resembling a unified musical statement.

60
Consequence of Sound

Despite its flaws, it can at times be an unexpected and stunning trip.

50
No Ripcord

Candela has some shining moments but, overall, is an album that teases the palette instead of really satisfying.

48
Pitchfork

In a desperate effort to prove worldly erudition, Mice Parade has forsaken the overall effect and strength of its songs.
