You could spend all year listening exclusively to this record and still find new things lurking in the otherworldly depths. Highly recommended.

While not the best in their arsenal, Heimdal is a massive uptick compared to Utgard.

Started off strong, but lost a bit of power as it went on. They've got some beautiful soundscapes on here, but I do wish they could've done even more interesting stuff.
Norwegian Black Metal makes me want to go into battle and fight giant fictional monsters
I wasn't really looking forward to listening to this because I thought it was going to be bland and boring, turns out, I'm a massive idiot, and this is actually pretty good. I'm probably not going to listen to any of this again but it's grand, epic, and it sounds great, with everything melding together really well.

Heimdal is Enslaved's 16th, YES 16TH!!!, studio album. Enslaved have been around for a while now. Starting in 1991, they've continue to make albums that were pretty enjoyable. But none of them got a lot of peoples attention. Until 2023 with Heimdal being released. the latest (and in their top ten greatest) offering from this group of lads i love so much. They return to their black metal viking/metal roots here more than in years and yet continue to expand simultaneously somehow. There are some first wave sounding sections and punky d beats that caught me off guard, blasting and crushingly heavy sections harking back to their first 4, beautiful, scorching solos, and the same (often better than their average) soaring, ethereal vocal melodies we know and ... read more
