From the sweet soft voice to the captivating instrumentation, there are parts of this experience that are very engaging. I do wish that the spell it had me under at points was stronger and effective as well as numerous. Cause when this album is good it's GOOD. Pity that a lot of it failed to capture my interest as the highlights.

Bad dream pop - but as in, “bad dream” pop - because musically it’s phenomenal. Cranes conjured up a hugely strange and powerful atmosphere here through their truly gothic approach to the genre. Ironically enough, they’d actually been getting further and further away from gothic rock sonically, and that’s exactly why Loved hits so hard at the core of the concept.

It’s fine sounding enough, just a little plain. I like dream pop a lot but even I find there’s a lot to be desired in the mixing, songwriting, and lyricism. I think it’s just kind of generic sounding. The album does pick up in the last two sings, though. Which are a lot more experimental and interesting. Wish they followed through with that for more of the album.
