2025 Advent Calendar Day 5! Bear Ghost - Jiminy

So this is the first "checkpoint" of the month so to speak. Jiminy is an album I've listened to since it came out and it was a lot of fun to revisit it in full for the first time in a while. It's maximalist perfection. There is so much going on and it never feels stale.

They really made a track about me and expected me to not notice?

I wish this was better, but it's not horrible. There are so many problems with it yet I can still see the really fun creative bear ghost I know. This band has a lot to recover from but I'm sure they can pull through.

The "boom, stomp, clap" crowd is gonna love this. Thank God I'm not part of that crowd. Everything about this band, from the Spotify bio to their pictures and the music itself, just oozes quirky, try-hard energy. As a side note: too many artists think they can pull off a seven minute song. I knew, after listening to the first song, that Bear Ghost was one of those bands that thinks they can pull it off. They can't.

A recommendation from a friend!

A flawed attempt at theatrical pop rockera… that pays off in a lot of nice ways but is indistinguishable from its more relevant counterparts.

I think there is a lot of melodic, instrumental, and songwriting talent that is on the brink of something extraordinary, but I enjoyed this regardless!

Let’s just switch it up and add more variety between tracks and we’re a 8/10.
