Leotrix appears to be a pretty divisive figure in the dubstep scene, and given his track record it's pretty easy to see why. Intentionally stripped-back and blown-out production with more aggressive synth leads is generally how he approaches dubstep, a style which I personally find to be novel, but painful to sit through. After a year, Leotrix is back with a new project and god damn is this thing good. The intro track "The Orphic Egg" while my least favorite on the EP is still a great track featuring that classic Leo style, while throwing in some new sounds to spice things up. The following tracks is in a similar style to tracks like "Chipiez Deeper" with that very minimal sound design that still hits very hard. This is EP takes way too much of a straightforward and direct approach. The ideas happening in The Orphic Egg and Hard Drives Are Cooked are good, but they aren't really expanded to their full potential. The minimalism mixed in with the heaviness that Leotrix focuses on with most of these is cool. However, the end result usually falls flat for me.
