judged from the standpoint of circa 1982-84, it could have easily been Let's Active rather than R.E.M. that emerged as college radio superstars. only thinking about the two bands at the time, Let's Active had all the advantages: better singer, better songs, better bass player, WAAAAY better drummer. ultimately it didn't go that way but that does not detract in any way from the brilliance of this album, a perfect portrait of its time and place, full of inventive and meticulous song structures ... read more
