As a piece of work, Dead Start Program retains an overriding feeling of clinical detachment as each song is imbued with a distinctively mechanized edge. Nevertheless, it is a hugely enjoyable and engaging example of an artist energised by his own self-set limitations.
Twenty years into his career, it's remarkable that John Tejada hasn't made a sub-par album, leaving Dead Start Program as another dependable collection of quality techno that will satisfy his fan base, even if it fails to bring in new ears.
Although the record has a number of aesthetically appealing moments, Dead Start Program never quite coalesces.
Hypochondriac and Looping Generation aren't too bad, a few other good ones, but overall hugely disappointing.
