Pigfuck is a style of Noise Rock that pushes the rebellious nature present in Post-Hardcore and Post-Punk to its extreme. Songs are grounded in a gritty and abrasive sound, accompanied by a sleazy aesthetic and often containing edgy lyricism with the main intention to be as provocative as possible, usually with vague or unclear meaning assigned to them. The genre's name originated in 1987 by critic Robert Christgau using it as a derogatory term aimed to describe the harsh sound of early Sonic Youth albums, which later helped define the peculiar sound of bands associated with obscure labels such as Amphetamine Reptile and Touch and Go Records. Infamous bands such as Big Black, Brainbombs, The Jesus Lizard and Butthole Surfers are known to adapt this unconventional sound into their work.
