the moment i realized that (at the time) fellow kanye fans would type out the exact number of i's, f's, and e's when talking about silver surfer intermission is the moment i started my slide off the kanye train
my dislike of this album is not because i grew out of it; i age with my angst and edge intact. my dislike of this album is because, when i look back on it, yeezus feels more like an embarrassing, edgy, covid-era discord friend group id like to forget
people get so caught up in the spectacle of this album that they forget you lowkey have to press that skip button a lot. fantano was lowk right to give this a 6
real talk. the fact that he's a wee bit off his rocker now hurts me the most when it comes to this album in specific. i do think this one is a standout of his. unfortunately i only ethically listen to music. dance gavin dance reviews coming NEVER.
the transition to stadium jams (instead of slow jamz) produced some pretty high highs. flashing lights is great. i wonder is pretty incredible. but i wonder (haha) how many time's you (yes, YOU) have streamed big brother or the glory in the past fiscal year
slow jamz alone makes this worth it. sometimes i forget slow jamz isnt the only song on this record
i remember waiting for so long and being so hype for this album to drop. then i heard jail
I see discussions of this album describe it as a "cover" album of Kendrick Lamar tracks, but in all serious that doesn't do this project justice. Jazz and Rap are ever-dynamic genres that influence and feed off of one another, and this project is proof of that. These are not covers, but evolutions; not arrangements, but re-imaginings. As usual on New Jazz ... read more
This is, before all else, a truly special and influential album. It is very hard to find things to critique.
There are moments on this album that are second to none other within the genre. Immensely heavy kit shredding will break the clouds into gorgeous double lead parts before diving back into palm mutes and panic stabs...I guess the word for it is dynamic. This is a very, impressively, incredibly dynamic record...
There are some genuinely beautiful moments within the guitars, the ... read more
i think this one just misses out on my on my favorite albums list. i cant really praise it in ways it hasn't already been praised unfortunately.
i think i would usually give this like. maybe a 90. but im giving it a 91 just to spite that fuckass guardian review. fuck you Tom Cox. dont diss madonna EVER again.
soft rock is a weaker genre for me, but this album is a great listen.
tom work on "Home Again" in specific is stellar. those dead 70s drums are thick, hell *yeah* dude, what a solid foundation. slight Motown influences in some drum passages.
big fan of the dynamic bass guitar writing throughout, especially on tracks like "So Far Away" and "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman."
piano is silky smooth. the mid chord voicings (choosing when to and when to not use ... read more
