宇多田ヒカル [Hikaru Utada] - DEEP RIVER
95

Peak Utada, her best album, and genuinely one of the best albums of all time ☝️

I really suggest looking up the lyrics to some of these songs.

Deep River has a lot of very emotional and heartfelt lyrics covering a wide array of topics from life and death, love, the longing for it, one's inner conflicts, personal growth, and a lot more. It's crazy to think Utada wrote this at 19, and I'm sure beneath everything there is an underlying message, maybe something having to do ... read more

already an amazing song, but people have now realized its slander potential.

I think as far as albums go, this is probably her best in terms of being a straight forward "pop" album. Generally more upbeat but not as lyrically deep as her previous album, it is made up for with some of the best production in her discography.

Honestly, I don't know whether the production has aged badly or well; the songs blend this electronic/EDM ... read more

meh, feels like a weird moment between her cute pop ballads and the more out there R&B she would eventually do, neither committing to either.

Having random English conversations at the cashier as interludes is kinda corny and reminds me of the "place, Japan" meme, but now glazing the us.

This is Peak R&B Utada, just so many songs that go hard, and some of the biggest hits in her discography.

It may not have the lyrical depth that you would get from the albums after this one, but it for sure makes up for it with how much fun your gonna have listening to it. There are some great upbeat pop songs, some lowkey mid-tempo R&B, and freaked tf out rock songs (listen to the first seconds of 蹴っ飛ばせ!)

Some songs do overstay their welcome, and the remix adds quite a bit ... read more
