What is becoming more apparent to me is how important this album is and when we're getting it. At this point in hip-hop discourse, the numbers tell the story and people are "doing interviews just to go double cardboard". That's not what they're in it for. Some definitely are just there for that, but the ones that care aren't. Clipse and Pharrell really care about the product and the state of hip-hop, even explicitly stating that the only people allowed to have ... read more
Treating this like a separate album (because it REALLY SHOULD BE), it is really good. Just a notch below the original SOS, but there are definitely some real differences here. First of all, going from 23 tracks to only 15 is such a refresher. In an age of digital streaming and chart talks (which is the whole reason this is a "deluxe", but I digress), she chose the quality over the quantity and it really does show.
The way I see it is a middle-ground sonically between Ctrl & SOS. ... read more
I really regretted putting this album off for so long. Being only the second album I've ever listened to for the first time exclusively while driving, this was an incredible experience. Completing one of (if not the) best trilogies in music history, this is an absolute masterpiece. From start to finish, there's rarely a blunder or anything to scoff at. It finds a sweet spot to sit in right between the soundscapes of Dawn FM and After Hours. Even with it being 22 tracks with only two ... read more
As an outsider looking in, I thought that BROCKHAMPTON was another hyped-up underground group that really didn't have any substance, but I couldn't be more glad to be wrong. The production all gels together so well and we get some pretty solid performances all over this thing. The pacing was great and it really kept me on my toes as I didn't know what direction it was going in next. Playing BUMP into WASTE makes it seem like two different albums or two different groups. Some of ... read more
As crazy as this album is, it doesn't deserve as much hate as it's getting. Worth the five-year wait? That's a different story. Still, Carti somehow kept me on my toes and wondering what could come next through these 30 songs. Carti basically summoned the Avengers with Future, Thug, Uzi, Travis, Kanye and Mike Dean on production, and even mustard-boy himself, Kendrick Lamar. Now, while his inclusion on three songs was unexpected, I really liked all 3 tracks, and I don't ... read more
