Just got around to this, I remember listening to the album for the first time in 2020 and it instantly becoming my go to album for the rest of that year, and even to this day, when I want something calmer.
I initially rated the album a 97, though I wasn't on this website back then, and I think this is nearly as good.
The original recording is a 10/10 album for me, and this is a version that I love nearly as much.
Couldn't be happier with this release, Ichiko Aoba consistently makes the most ... read more
Tyler did amazing, 21 did his shit too, enjoyed the verses a lot. But the production is just not good. The idea is good, but the execution is really bad. A better mix and a slightly better pattern would elevate this so much.
EDIT: Production grew on me, it's hype, but 21's verse shrunk on me a bit, overall an alright track, though I would expect more out of such a collaboration. (60 --> 68)
Very pretty track, but feels like it's missing something. The song structure feels a bit shaky especially near the pre chorus, but the writing is nice and the atmospherics are pretty cool too.
Great soundtrack, incredible movie
Fun, addicting, comfort music, one of their best tracks to date for sure
EDIT: 63 -> 70
This grew on me considerably, the concept is pretty consistent, along with the production. These aspects are pretty great. I love how personal and upfront Kendrick is, especially on tracks like Auntie Diaries, Father Time, Worldwide Steppers and of course, Mother I Sober.
My main problem with this album is that I find a lack of musical/instrumental interest in a lot of these tracks (Die Hard, Rich Spirit, Crown) and some of these, although they carry great ideas and ... read more
Hyped for this, Danger Mouse production is great as always, and Black Thought still sounds like he's in top form.
A great project from one of the best artists working today. Really enjoyed the variety on this thing, with jazzy, lyrical, beautiful tracks like "Melt Session #1" and "Walkin", to more experimental cuts with unconventional flows, like "John Wayne" and "Worst Comes To Worst" and bangers like "Troubles", "Sanjuro" and "Zatoichi". The writing is pretty varied too, with pretty consistent themes, but various styles to fit the ... read more
"Happy New Year" was very fittingly the first single I heard this year, and I was very excited for this album. Very happy with the full project too! Apart from "Sunday", the tracks are very solid, the pacing on the first half "Sunday" feels pretty awkward, but it does get good near the end. The sudden switch to indie rock (even nearing folk rock) for the last 2 songs would be very off putting, if it wasn't for the songs being this good. "Half Light" feels ... read more
Pusha T finally comes through with another project. This album is less lyrically dense, more hook heavy, and pretty boundary pushing at times. Although, in comparison to his past effort, Daytona, it fades. In general, this album has good writing, and strong production from Pharell and Ye. But on tracks like "Call My Bluff" and "Scrape It Off" I'm genuinely shocked by how bad it gets. I don't understand how these tracks, with the amount of talent these artists have, went so ... read more
Very sweet song, I like the flow of this, Georgia's voice is amazing, and the writing is just really sweet. I wish the faster sections hit a bit harder, but nonetheless, a great track!!
