Fagen's vast ambitions for this one just kinda came up short.
You can definitely hear what he was going for on the first track, Babylon Sister, which is my favorite song on this album and one of my absolute favorite Steely Dan songs. This is an album that loves life and living. It's pure, emotional, and profound. I can never understand how this album continues to fly under the radar today, because I don't think there's a more well-crafted folk singer-songwriter record like this one.
