For example, Ruin the Friendship is most certainly not high school roleplay but a genuine look back at regrets after time does away at friends. I promise I love Deftones…but sonically this is nothing new—adequate at best. Lyrically, gaudy and nearing on edgelord. Lowercase styling and vague mental health subject matter just doesn’t add to their dynamic range; or maybe it does, by establishing a new unexpected low.
