Geese - Getting Killed
63

I honestly haven't written a full-fledged review on this platform for nearly a year, and I kind of want to change that because I feel I'm a better writer and critique now. Speaking of which, this Geese album is definitely a highlight from this year. This album has been getting a ton of recognition as of late, and I can easily see why. Despite it not sounding too different from their 2023 record, 3D Country, the band does enough to where I can confidently say that this album is a more ... read more

Kevin Abstract - Blush
NR

Didn't Ameer Vann abuse woman? Why the fuck is he here on his old bandmates album, a bandmate who kicked him out from the band. Kevin is kind of a dumbass, I'm not listening to this.

Benson Boone - American Heart

A tenor falsetto has never made me want to vomit more so than now

The Weeknd - Timeless (Remix)
70

It’s worse than the original, but it’s literally fine. Can we all be normal for once. Doechii don’t deserve all of the backlash for a random silly song with a bad sample flip she made half a decade ago

Kanye West - DONDA 2 [Reissue]
NR

God my 2025 bingo card is a paperweight now from how much unexpected shits going on.

Too bad I don’t care enough to listen to this.

Amyl and the Sniffers - Cartoon Darkness
84

A surprisingly great classic sounding punk record, a-la acts like The Ramones and The Clash. An emphatic vocalist leads a collection of mostly bangers and jams through and through with some sleek as hell production. It's just a very solid fun album to jam out to, and sometimes, that's just what you want.

파란노을 [Parannoul] - Sky Hundred
77

Parannoul continues to impress with breathtaking soundscapes and Emo Shoegaze jams. I wish they would evolve their sound a bit more, as this does sound very much like their previous two mainline albums. But nonetheless it is still great, even if its not reinventing the wheel.

Kim Gordon - The Collective

Hate to say it y'all, but I thoroughly did not like this album. A 70 year old attempts to make Industrial Hip-Hop, and ends up concocting one of the most distorted, sloppyly produced albums of last year. Fantano glazed this album HARD, this is complete trash.

SENTRIES - Snow as a Metaphor for Death
87

Easily one of the most exhilarating and artful Noise Rock and Post-Punk albums from 2024. A great meld of hard hitting fast-paced barn burners like 'Performance Art" and "Witches", and lingering beautiful pieces, like the crushing self-titled closing track. An underrated gem of last year, and one that truly deserved so much more praise then it got.

Ka - The Thief Next to Jesus
85

One of the most heartbreaking down-right gorgeous hip-hop albums to be released in 2024. The Abstract Drumless beats feel so heavenly, while also having an ere of sadness behind it all. There are only like two tracks that don't work for me on here that hold it back from being better, but it is still a great album that offers such palpable emotions

Rest in Piece Ka.

Cindy Lee - Diamond Jubilee
89

I was incredibly intimidated by this album due to its length alone, but shockingly enough, this is one of the only non-swans albums that are two hours long that I can say earns it length. This an absolutely crowning achievement in modern-day psychedelic pop, harkening back to summer of 67' esc aesthetics and sonic textures while adding a fresh sound to them. It truly is one of the most impressing and enjoyable lo-fi records I've ever heard, and if this any indication of the talent of ... read more

The Velvet Underground & Nico - The Velvet Underground & Nico

It took four years and god knows how many relistens for me to finally say with full confidence that this is one of the best records ever made. Lou Reed and Nicos beautifully passionate vocals mixed with the Artsy Rock and Experimental tracks that were insanely ahead of their time make for one of the most perfect platters of music you could ever ask for, with tracks like Venus In Furs and Heroin being some of the greatest songs ever made. I'm genuinely so happy that I've finally faced ... read more

Gut Health - Stiletto

An overall very fun and catchy Post-Punk record, led by an even more fun vocalist. The sound of this record almost reminds me of Q-Bomb in a way, which might be an odd comparison, but that's what I thought. Despite some tracks that didn't work for me, I think this is a good blueprint that the band can build upon to make a truly fantastic record.

Miles Davis - Bitches Brew
96

One of the best Jazz albums of all time, hand's down. I cannot believe that an album this meticulously crafted, and this well performed, with some of the most enticing jazz hooks and riffs of all time, and an all around gorgeous sound could even exist. I don't even really know what to say, because it almost feels indescribable, which in a round-about way makes it even more beautiful, but all I can say is, y'all were right about this album.

Doechii - Alligator Bites Never Heal
89

I was waiting for another mainstream woman in rap to blow the lid off the scene after Megan's album got a mixed reception, Nicki completely destroyed her reputation forever, and the meteoric fall of Ice Spice, and low and behold, here she is. This was one of the most fun and energetic hip-hop projects I've heard all year, as Doechii is an insanely funny and lovable MC who brought enticing beats and extremely layered lyricism to the board. She truly is a generational talent, and I ... read more

King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King
100

This was a solid as concrete 10/10 for me for the longest time, but I will fully admit now that Moonchild has no reason to be that long and breaks the flow of the album severely, to the point where I can't give it any higher. I preface this review with that because literally everything about this album is perfect in every way, from 21st Century Schizoid Man being one of the greatest Jazz Rock songs of all time, the beautiful peaceful sorrow of I Talk To the Wind, Epitaph being insanely ... read more

Four Tet - Three
75

I don't really have a whole lot to say on this one, but it is a very solid collection of calming Electronic Downtempo music. Generally enjoyable throughout, with a couple tracks I don't really click with. I am excited to get into more of Four Tet's work however.

my bloody valentine - loveless
90

I'm honestly still not as in love with this record as the majority of people in the online music sphere, but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't great. This album features some of the most quintessential Shoegaze tracks that still sound hypnotizing and marvelous to this very day, especially Only Shallow, To Here Knows When, and When You Sleep. A very beautiful, revolutionary record in the landscape of experimental music, but it has enough tracks I don't click with to keep it ... read more

Beyoncé - COWBOY CARTER
75

Some of the tracks are still peak Beyonce, especially American Requiem, Riverdance, and Bodyguard. But the pacing on this album is very off, its too long, a lot of the features add nothing to the record, and it overall doesn't feel like it has the emotional power that records like Lemonade and Renaissance. I was huge on this record at the beginning of 2024, and about a year later, I can't say im coming back to this one very soon, and I hope that doesn't mean Beyoncé's ... read more

death's dynamic shroud - You Like Music
77

You know what, as a matter of fact, I think I do like Music. deaths dynamic shroud.wmv always delivers with an exhilarating electronic record that sounds like truly nothing else, and this is not any exception. While I think a lot of the ideas on this record don't get fleshed out, and the pacing is a bit off, this is still a great record to add to ddswmv's eclectic discography.
