Apollo Brown & Boog Brown - Brown Study

The first of many boom bap collaboration projects for Apollo Brown. Neither he nor Boog Brown really had much material to their name at the time of release, but it's easy to tell that both had studied the game for several years with a deep-seated passion for their craft. Boog Brown even expresses that right from the opening tip, stating that she started her career kicking public battle raps and had prioritized perfecting her craft since at first she "sounded wack." Still, I'd be lying if I said she holds a candle to any of her influences, even years after those battle raps. She doesn't have a very commanding delivery and lacks real topical range. I suppose Apollo Brown does fine behind the boards; far from his best stuff and pretty one-dimensional towards the end, but still decent boom bap beats with crisp drums. It's not enough to make this a notable listen, though; it's really only worth hearing if you want a taste of the early days of Apollo Brown.
