I remember listening to this album on our family's iPod as a kid, not knowing how much I would love this album later in my life. Muse is at its Muse-iest in this album- epic choruses, dramatic instrumental moments, and hard-hitting headbanging rock.
Apocalypse Please is a phenomenal opening with lyrics that feel as timely as ever and a soaring soundscape that complements Matt's vocals perfectly. The tracklist continues with great songs in Time Is Running Out and Sing for Absolution, ... read more
After a couple of months of listens to this record, I think it's finally time to give it a review.
Breach was a huge surprise to me, not in the way it sounded, but that it even existed in the first place. When they first announced this album, I could not believe it at all. It was shocking that all of the double-album theorists were actually correct (even if not in the way they may have predicted). So the fact that we got this album so quickly after Clancy is something I am very grateful ... read more
I think this is my favorite Hozier album. I've listened to it front-to-back more than any of his other albums. It contains a lot of my favorite songs of his like No Plan, Shrike, Dinner & Diatribes, and the title track, Wasteland, Baby!.
Probably my favorite rock album of 2024. Consistent highs (Running in Circles, I hope you hate me., Uto, Black and Gold) with a couple of lows (Tipping Point, KOET).
Such a nostalgic EP for me. I remember the fake pilots leaks people posted using songs from this and discovering some really cool songs from it. The Fall is a really strong track with vivid imagery within its lyrics. Aawake at Night's "wub wub" bass is so awesome. Tip Toes has a great verse/chorus contrast that was later used and improved upon on Still Feel. Overall, 3 solid tracks that served as a good introduction to the band in 2017, but is not very reflective of their sound ... read more
Very solid debut EP with some of this project's best tracks (Choke, Do It All The Time).
2024 was a year of album and artist discovery for me like never before, many of which turned into absolute faves. But I'm not sure any hit as hard and immediately as Imaginal Disk did. I had seen this album being discussed online and even within my own circle, and I knew I would have to give it a listen. I still remember sitting at my desk with my headphones on, coming to the realization track-by-track that this was something special. There's such a cohesion and utter attention to ... read more
To me, this album IS Clairo. Sure, it's not exactly the bedroom/indie pop of her early music, but this is her best-sounding work from front to back. This is the type of album you put on at night while lounging after dinner. The vocals of Claire mesh perfectly with the lush instrumentation to create a velvety smooth sound. I hope so dearly that the Leon Michels connection stays strong and creates another beautifully charming album.
Standout tracks for me are Second Nature, Terrapin, and ... read more
While being a weaker record in comparison to some of their other work, this isn't a bad album in the slightest. The band offers some of their darkest lyrics and themes dressed up in a bright, colorful soundscape: classic twenty one pilots.
The opening 4 tracks are solid to great, and even Saturday and Never Take It are good songs in my opinion. The only real tracks I'm "meh" on are Formidable and Bounce Man; they're still enjoyable, but I never really go out of my way ... read more
Much closer to a Trench-level release after the good albeit unexpected Scaled and Icy, this album delivers some incredible moments, especially in the opening half. Overcompensate was an insane lead single that left me jaw-dropped upon first listen and remains one of my favorites off the album. Next Semester hit incredibly hard as I was in the midst of my final college semester before graduation. Backslide quickly became a contender for top track and only grew over time. This album was gearing ... read more
Debated whether or not to give this a 100 but I have to. This album is perfect to me. It extends beyond the music as well; the entire narrative and buildup to this record was like anything I ever experienced and still is. An incredible 5-track run to start the album, with some of their best work, is followed by a consistent and cohesive sound all throughout. Nico to Bandito is one of my favorite 3-track runs on the record, with Cut My Lip being a standout in the latter half of the album (hard ... read more
