Honestly, love binki. Found out about his music during lockdown, not long after Heybb! came out. This EP's great, as is much of his discography.
FAVOURITE: Boomerang
LEAST FAVOURITE: Defibrillator
Making a first impression with a debut album is quite important, and Gurriers made an incredible one. Dan Hoff's lyrics have the perfect balance of introspect and frustration towards a world gone mad, and the sound itself is far from generic. Though the album as a whole still seems a little formulaic, it works incredibly well.
FAVOURITE: Top of the Bill
LEAST FAVOURITE: Close Call
In terms of their other output, including the later releases of Skinty Fia and Romance, A Hero's Death has a lot of Fontaines' most underrated songs, most notably the likes of 'No', 'I Was Not Born', and 'You Said'. It's a noticeably more experimental, moodier sounding catalogue of songs compared to Dogrel, and the band's lack of reluctance to evolve made this album so great.
FAVOURITE: I Was Not Born
LEAST FAVOURITE: Love Is The Main Thing
No idea why Jacob didn't like these songs. I think it may be because of his focus on Wunderhorse, considering these to be his 'throwaways' that didn't fit the band's sound, but I think these tracks are incredible. Hopefully we get some more solo stuff from Jacob in the future.
BEST: Red Balloon
WORST (By no means a bad rendition of a song from a film made in '61): Moon River
